The challenge
Tax payment deadlines bring the heaviest traffic of the year to a county treasurer-tax collector's office. Every payment at a staffed counter means a cashier's time, a line for residents, and manual processing and reconciliation for the finance team — all limited to office hours.
The solution
Riverside County deployed two Kiosk Pay Station self-service kiosks in its office. Residents could look up their bill, pay at the kiosk and leave with a time-dated receipt — without waiting in line for a cashier.
The results
In a 7-day period, two kiosks collected $3,001,000 in payments, while eight staffed cashier stations processed $2,400,000 during the same time period. Greater than 50% of payments were collected by just two self-serve kiosks.
“2 kiosks in a 7-day period did more transactions than 8 staffed cashier stations.”
— Finance Director, Riverside County GovernmentThe results demonstrated that self-service kiosks dramatically increase payment throughput while reducing staff workload.
“Self-service kiosks dramatically reduced lines and improved service for our customers. It has been one of the most effective payment modernization tools we've implemented.”
